Romeo and Juliet Essay

In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare a key idea that is explored is fate controls Romeos and Juliets life. In this essay I’m going to have 3 key parts of the play and say why its fate and whether it a a good effect or bad. The scenes are: where romeo meets the servant and reads the invite to the ball which he wasn’t directly invited to, Tybalt mercutio and Romeo fight resulting in mercutio and tybalt dying and the letter about the plan for staging juliet’s death doesn’t get to romeo.

When romeo and juliet meet at the ball. Romeo meet the servant and the servant can’t read so asked romeo to read it out to him and after he had read it out he was invited to go to this ball by his friend benvolio and he quotes: “I pray come and crush a cup of wine” everyone had masks on and he was walking around and somehow come face to face with another person in the masked and that’s how romeo and juliet meet. This is fate that they somehow meet in a big ball and they end up falling in love. The bad thing about this is romeo is a montague and juliet is a capulet and they are enemies. Juliet’s care taking nurse quotes “romeo and montague the only son of your great enemy This has a bad effect on everything and leads in to more conflict with each others families and eventually there deaths.

Shakespeare uses to control fate was when there’s a big fight between Tybalt, Mercutio and Romeo. Romeo brave mercutio is dead. In this scene Tybalt kills Mercutio and out of vengeance and rage Romeo kills Tybalt. Because of this romeo has committed crime and is banished from Verona. This is controlled by fate because he isn’t able to go along with friar lawrence’s plan unless the letter got there. This big fight was caused because of romeo and juliet trying to get marry so fast when they are apart of warring factions. All of this is controlled by fate and everything is leading up to their final hours. Fate had decided for them to die.

The letter doesn’t make it to Romeo. In this scene friar lawrence is making a plan with juliet and trying to send romeo this plan. The guard watch trys to send a letter to romeo but it couldn’t because of a plague. “Nor could get a message to bring it thee. So fearful of infection.” while the ceremony is going on batherzar sees that romeo and he doesn’t know the plan and tells romeo that juliet is dead. Out of anger and sadness he finds a spell maker and buys poison think it would clenes him. Once he gets there he drinks the poison “cleans him” and he dies as juliet wakes up and sees her lover died on top of here and proceeds to stab her self resulting.

Romeo and Juliet written by Shakespeare uses this play in 3 of the many scenes to show fate and he portraits it. If none of these scenes happened in the play the story wouldn’t of happened. Shakespeare thought on fate is it was supposed to happen from the beginning to the end. All the scenes have good and bad things that happen to the characters. That’s what i think Shakespeare’s view on fate in Romeo and Juliet.

Hi Jaymin,

You have made a good start with this essay. Your ideas are clear and your examples are well explained.

I encourage you to develop your explanation of how your examples communicate an idea about fate.

Also, look to develop the ‘Y-der ideas” section of your paragraphs. You should look to comment on how your selected example contributes to the development of fate throughout the text as a whole. Also look to discuss any relevant information from the time that the play was written and comment on how this helps us to understand the concept of fate.
